Hesatum SHG’s Story

“This couple of pigs is not for sale or to be consumed” said Yano. “You have to take care of the pigs and when it’s already breeding, you have to give the descendants to other group to be taken care and so on…”

Yano is a development facilitator of Kurima ADP. He told that words when giving a couple of pigs to Hesatum Self Help Group (SHG). This SHG located in Assolokobal one a sub district of Kurima ADP ministry area. Until the year of 2008, this SHG already had 41 members consist of 19 women and 22 men. Founded in 2006, they began with selling goods door to door. After they gained profit of 12 million Rupiahs (Rp.), they built a small grocery store with increasing items of goods. Besides running a store, member of the group also works as farmer or coarse worker by working in other people fields. Some of the members even become a breeder of pigs, before they have to let go their pigs of illnesses.

Mr. Agasalerek was very happy when listening to Yano’s voice. He looks very enthusiasm in every word of Yano. Yano read the term of agreement between World Vision and Hesatum SHG. They have prepared the stable for the pigs. Every SHG that receive couple of pigs have to build stable using their own budget. Kurima ADP had put that as one of the requisition. By keeping the pigs in the stable will protect them from illnesses caused by eating at random. In the stable, pigs will be given food regularly that ensures better growth and better health.

“We are happy with this pigs, ADP let us choose the pigs by our selves in the market that made us responsible in the pigs condition” said Mr. Agasalerek. “We believe after being vaccinated, these pigs will grow healthy and will give healthy offspring also”

“We will role on the offspring to other member of the group until all members had their own pigs cared in the stable. These pigs will support our SHG and a guarantee of educational fee for our children. Thank you World Vision and all the sponsors that enable us to be a good pig’s breeder” Mr. Agasalerek smiled to his wife and to Yusten Asso the secretary of Hesatum SHG. The look on their eyes reflects hope for better future for their kids.
