Her name is Silpa Asso, she will be 5 years old in the next month (November). She is the second child of couple Patnus Asso and Amina Wetipo. As her father Patnus Asso work as a farmer. He doesn’t own a land and works for the other farmer that owns the land. Working as an employee of the others, Patnus doesn’t have enough money to give nutritious food for their children. Even Silpa, his second child was categorized as under weight children when she was examine in Air Garam health center. Yeah, it was in the middle of October that Air Garam health center did the examination using weighing scale and length scale given by World Vision. In previous time Air Garam health center usually done a regular examination carried out by several Posyandus (Integrated health post) run by the community with the help of health cadres. But due to limited facilities and broke of some weighing scale and length scale, it didn’t run regularly anymore. With the help of World Vision giving weighing scales for babies and length scales already help Air Garam health center to run back the program regularly.
Patnus Asso had 2 other children beside Silpa. The first one is Mince Asso. She is 8 years old and study in the third grade of elementary school. The third one is Arina Asso. She is 1.5 years old. Unfortunately, during the examination by Air Garam health center, Arina stayed with his mother in the field. Since 2004, Silpa Asso was recruited to become sponsored child of Kurima ADP. After that, his father Patnus already joined one Self Help Group called KSM Pipo. This SHG own a small grocery store that sells basic goods fro the community such as cooking oil, rice, and etc. Though the member has to share the benefits, Patnus found that the benefit able to fulfill his family needs. He can support his children to go to school and now after knowing the underweight status of Silpa, Patnus promised to himself that he will give nutritious food for their children from now on.
“I’m glad that I bring Silpa to Air Garam health center, I know that World Vision is the one that support the health center by providing the measuring tools. I will try my best to give all of my children nutritious food from now on” he said. A small curve of smile appeared on his face.
